About Us
By: Liz Palmer
Mission Statement: Spreading sustainability, educating our community on their impact on the environment, and working towards a greener tomorrow.
What is the Bright Lights Project?
The Bright Lights Project goes around the North Middlesex community and replaces Incandescent light bulbs with CFL light bulbs for free. Anyone that lives in Pepperell, Townsend, or Ashby qualifies for this service. By doing this our clients are saving hundreds of dollars a year and the amount of carbon waste in our community is significantly lowered.
How did this program start?
The Service Learning Program at North Middlesex Regional High School takes a group of students down to New Orleans every year. This past year we worked with Green Light, a non-profit company that also replaces light bulbs in the New Orleans area. I was so inspired by their program that I decided I wanted to do something similar in our community. So with help from Mr. Kane, Youth Venture, Andreas Hoffmann the founder of Green Light, and Rachel Dorfman the development director at Green Light I was able to start this amazing program. For more information on my inspiration please visit their website http://www.greenlightneworleans.org/.
Why is it important for our community?
Because our services are open to everyone, people who may not be able to afford the more expensive CFL light bulbs are able to get them and in turn save more money on their electric bills. Also CFL bulbs produce less carbon waste, which is the main cause of climate change.
